Listeners!

Tuesday, August 24, 2004
Four!! And they are listening to the "High 5" countdown!!

Got up in the middle of the night and...

Tuesday, August 17, 2004
  1. Tightened up the "Timed ID" and "High 5" jingles - they were waaaay too loose.
  2. Updated the weekday programs to run High 5 and the "combo" IDs.
  3. Created new "combo" IDs with the X-Files theme and Barry White.
  4. Got rid of the Creed songs and three old and yucky Bob Seger songs.
  5. Got rid of "Talk to me, dance with me", and banished the Hilary Duff song from heavy rotation.
  6. Changed "Pick Hit of the Week" and "High 5".
  7. And, the most time-consuming of all - re-scrambled the heavy rotation so it doesn't play the same songs at the same time every day (it was quite annoying.)

That's about it. Because of this, I only got 4 1/2 hours of sleep. Yawn.

New Features

Monday, August 16, 2004
High 5 is up and running - need to trim the ends of those jingles, it seems like they go on forever...From now on I'll also have to cue the High 5's every morning. Fun....

Also added the "image" ID songs plus the Timed ID jingles - missed the 10 o' clock one, now gotta wait for 1 o'clock to hear how it sounds. I'm the only PD who would program something without listening to them first. Ha!....

Music Bits

Thursday, August 12, 2004
It's a Survivor morning - "Moment of Truth" and "American Heartbeat" in consecutive hours ...

Songs that needs to be removed: "Higher" by Creed (actually, anything by "Creed"), "Talk to me, Dance with me" by Hot Hot Heat.

Segue Way

Tuesday, August 10, 2004
Segue way is the transition from one song to the next.

It's not uncommon to hear segue ways with songs from different eras and genres, but in my station it's taken to an extreme...

"Chop Suey" by System of a Down --> "I Got a Name" by Jim Croce

Classic.

Only on *my* station!

Today

ok..so the station is up all day but no one is listening. Yesterday I had listeners from Boston, Denver, Minneapolis and they were getting disconnected left and right. Nice way to built up listenership.

Outage

Monday, August 09, 2004
Two outages cost me two listeners.

New Stuff

Added a few new songs. I'm quite excited. Also testing the "Pick Hit of the Week" concept. Got a listener this morning...cool.

Get rid of the long song at 10 a.m.!!!

Thursday, August 05, 2004
How did it get on, I'm not so sure...

New Moon on Monday

How the heck does this song get played so often???

Onion News

The ghost of Anne Frank held a press conference to tell everyone to stop reading her diary. Classic!

Four Years Ago Today - "Catfight" at KYSR was Real

(August 4, 2000) A recent "catfight" between Jamie White and Andrea Jackson has been chronicled in this column as late as last Monday. Al Gordon, KYXY/KPLN engineer in San Diego, is a regular reader of LARADIO.com and wonders if the "angry dialogue" between the KYSR morning co-host and the Metro Traffic broadcaster was "schtick" to get everyone talking. "Regrettably the unfortunate unprofessional exchange was real," emailed Andrea. "I was as surprised as I'm sure most listeners were by the language and tone of the interaction." When you heard the exchange, you knew it was real or they were really excellent actors. It seemed very spontaneous.

  • Andrea: Pipe down there sunshine, Jesus Christ.
  • Jamie: Oh, okay bitch. You just do the traffic and shut the hell up!
  • Andrea: Four and a half hours is not enoughfor you to squawk on the box?
  • Jamie: Okay, you're done!
  • Danny: Here's the traffic.
  • Andrea: South L.A., 1-10 North.
  • Jamie: We're going to bring back the other guy.
  • Andrea: Pipe down!
  • Jamie: Turn her off. Goodbye. First of all, you're traffic girl. Second, you don't talk tome like that. Thirdly, everyone says that like the other guy way better. So we'll bring back Jeff Stevens. And you will shut the hell up! Have a nice day. I'll be here all week.

I wondered if there were any repercussions for Andrea. "Not in the negative sense to be sure. Since our little set-to, I have received dozens of calls and letters of support and encouragement. I'm grateful for the fans who listen every day. Their overwhelming response only serves as a reminder that there is very little room for malice and ignorance on the broadcast airwaves."
Andrea tried to explain how the exchange happened. "I don't pretend to comprehend what is inside Jamie's head. I do, however, understand that Jamie has found a niche in radio and has created a success for herself as a result of her on-air image. For many of us in this business, the struggle for fame can often lead us down roads we might not take under other circumstances, but I would never discount Jamie's luck, nor would I wish her anything but stability in life and career," concluded Andrea.

Heavy Rotation

Tuesday, August 03, 2004
It seems like the same songs are coming on everyday. Postal Service is on at 8 a.m. daily. Need to look into scrambling the HR schedule and add some new songs.

Outage

Monday, August 02, 2004
Station went out at about 5:20p with a listener...auuugh!

First Post

I created and programmed Sleepy Cat Records. And I listen to it all day long - mistakes and all. Part of the reason for this is to log the errors so I can fix them later, and anyone reads this will get to know all the goof ups. Enjoy.
